Kolbe Roper, 1983 - 2020
Kolbe uses touchstones in common vernacular of queer subgroups, creating works that play with the ideas of culture, histories, and how they are being presented or forgotten in today’s societies. Changing the covers of magazines or manipulating layers of an image speaks to personal narratives and cultural narratives of presentation to the public. His work also includes sculpture and embroidery. Roper received his MFA from California College of the Arts, in San Francisco and has been included in group exhibitions at LeGrange Museum, LeGrange, Georgia, River Market KCAC, Kansas City, Missouri, Maiden LA, Los Angeles, and SOMA Arts, San Francisco, California.
This site is dedicated to preserving and honoring his work and memory.
